Wild Surf review (iPod/iPhone)
July 4, 2012♫ “Everybody’s gone surfin’, surfin’ USA…”
10 word description: Endless surfing; collect shells, avoid sharks and seagulls. Day/night.
10 word review: Quite tough but fun. Power-ups and surfers to unlock.
You will like this if you enjoy: Endless runner games.
The good news: Pretty graphics. Controls work well. Feels different enough not to be “just another endless runner”. Plenty of incentive to keep earning coins – lots of surfers, boards and power-ups to unlock/buy. Plenty of Game Center achievements.
The bad news: The sheer amount (and cost) of unlockable stuff tends to emphasise the availability of IAPs. Load times feel a bit too long.
Arcadelife verdict: It’s a fun game, a good addition to the endless genre. The day/night cycle is synced to real-time so, if you play in the day, it’s day time in the game, and at night (it seemed to switch at 8pm, for me anyway) it’s night time in the game. Initially, it felt way too hard, but then I figured out (it’s also mentioned in some cut-scene cartoons) that you can swipe the seagulls and sometimes the sharks away.
Tomorrow I will be posting an unlock code that gives you 5000 shells/coins of in-game currency! You’re welcome.
