Clay Hunt review (iPod/iPhone)

February 15, 2011

10 word description: Clay pigeon shooting sim. Learn to shoot like an expert.

10 word review: Feels right, realistic, basic graphics, intuitive control method. Good sounds.

The bottle-shooting tutorial is all you need to master the controls. It's also a nice little time-attack challenge.

It’s like: A decent test of reaction and precise aim, without any small cuddly animals getting hurt.

It’s better than: Inbred Redneck Trophy Hunter IV

At "Pro" level, the clays are far away (i.e. small) and very fast.

It’s not: Packed with features and achievements.

Average game time: A couple of minutes for a 3 round session.

A high score table, some achievements and a bit more polish outside the shooting parts would be nice.

Arcadelife verdict: The shooting is definitely good, controls are hard to fault, sounds are great apart from the rather bored sounding voice saying, “Pull.” However, it feels like it’s only part of a bigger game, and the rest of the game is missing. I’d recommend adding a load of star-rated mini game challenges, similar to the tutorial bottle shoot. It wouldn’t be hard to make those up from the existing game components. Add some achievements, online leaderboard, an in-game high-score table and it would be a much better overall experience.
