Sad Princess HD review (iPad)

February 22, 2011

“People think I’m insane because I am frowning all the time”

10 word description: Horizontally scrolling beat-em-up. Sad Princess vs cartoon enemies.
10 word review: Gorgeous in HD, fun, smooth, polished, great genre example. Pets!

She's sad ... Cuddly animals must die.

You will like this if you enjoy: Wolf Boy, Death Knight, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Final Fight, smacking blue blobs around with a big mallet, etc.

Ah, so that's why she's so sad.... The backstory in this game is ever so slightly raving bonkers.

The good news: A highly polished genre classic, presented in rather sumptuous graphics with a charmingly insane leading lady dealing out the melee punishment. And there are pets too.

To add to her misery, Sad Princess was being stalked by a dwarf boar. They're very rare, you know.

The bad news: If you don’t like the admittedly repetitive walk-and-whack combat mechanic of this type of game, Sad Princess probably won’t convert you.

Not even going shopping cheers her up. She must be REALLY sad!

Arcadelife verdict: Sad Princess HD rocks! I loved it on the iPod but I’ve stopped playing that version because this is just better in every way. If you’re not sure you like the basic concept but you want to try it, get the free version (it will run ok on your iPad) and then make up your mind.

They're for life, you know, not just for Christmas.

  1. This type of hack and slash game doesn’t normally appeal to me, but I’m enjoying this one a lot. Nice review
