KissIsland review (iPod/iPhone)

“Theme from The Benny Hill Show”

10 word description: Stranded hero; chase Amazon women, avoid gorillas; lots of kissing.
10 word review: Funny, blatantly sexist, retro-feel, pretty looking, bizarre comic-book intro.

It's like one of the Lynx advert scripts that got rejected for being too sensible.

You will like this if you enjoy: Chasing fit women in tiny bikinis.

This could almost, *almost*, be a semi-serious adventure game...

The good news: It looks great, plays reasonably well and features Amazon women in tiny bikinis.

... well, I did say "almost".

The bad news: Catching the girls and avoiding the gorillas is often difficult because of imprecise collision detection. The content and theme (girls in bikinis being chased and forcibly kissed) may deter some people. I won’t say “offend” because anyone who claims to be offended by this game is being a bit silly.

All together: "He's BEHIND you!"

Arcadelife verdict: I haven’t seen an iOS game quite like this one before. I think the theme is rather good; knowingly sexist and rather proud of it. Playing the game instantly reminded me of The Benny Hill Show, specifically the show’s speeded-up end credits sequence where he was always chasing women and/or being chased by someone or something. There are occasional issues with collision detection, where you seemingly run through an Amazon woman that you’re chasing. It’s also possible to glitch yourself into a bit of a blurred mess with a gorilla where you don’t take any damage but can continually hit the gorilla for 5 points. Throwing the stones at enemies is not particularly reliable. Graphically, the game is very pretty. It looks like it should be some kind of isometric adventure game like “Where Time Stood Still”. Maybe that’s something that Ostin Games can do with this game series, either in a sequel or a different game. I think it would be worth sticking with the “crashed pilot and Amazon women” theme, but with a deeper game experience wrapped around it.

He's really not annoying at all.

The version of KissIsland that Arcadelife reviewed is 1.3
