Land-a Panda HD

“(Oh) I’m just a Love Machine, (Oh) To give you motivation”

10 word description: Aiming/timing puzzle challenges – reunite pandas using cannon; OF & GC achievements

10 word review: Fun, cute and very good looking. Mobile/casual must-have!

You will like this if you enjoy: Casual puzzle games such as Cut The Rope; Cannons; Pandas.

The good news: Apart from being extremely cute and colourful, this is a great example of a basic concept (shooting a panda out of a cannon) being honed and developed into a rather wonderful puzzle game experience.

Hopefully this explains the lyric choice at the top of the review...

The bad news: Every time you fail, a Panda cries.

More Pandas die every year from broken hearts than from shark attack. Fact.

Arcadelife verdict: I love games like this, where you’re half way through a level and you start getting subliminal flashbacks to much older games, even though the game you’re playing isn’t directly copying those games. In a way I almost feel sorry for younger gamers who don’t have a head full of Taito, Namco and pre-1990 Nintendo. Almost.

Just for a change, I’ll do this like an old-school review…

Graphics: Cute, colourful, clear and of a consistent style and quality. The blurry out-of-focus backgrounds work really well behind the big, bright foreground objects.

Aw, he's so cute ... shoot him out of a cannon at some metal spikes.

Sound: A pleasing blend of subtle tunes, appropriate and amusing spot-effects and, oh no – a crying Panda!

Gameplay: Simple tap-to shoot cannon mechanic develops through level progression with the gradual introduction of more complex elements – rotating cannon, moving cannon, enemies, dangerous obstacles, etc.

Green ghost "Icky" - never really recovered from being a Pac-Man reject.

Longevity: Several different zones, each with a large number of levels. Added replayability from the star rating system that is based on the collection of heart-coins in each level.

Overall, this is a well designed, great looking and very entertaining action/puzzle game.

Arcadelife rating: 89/100
