Tactical Warrior review (iPod/iPhone)

May 3, 2011

“I’m one with the warrior inside
My dominance can’t be denied
Your entire world will turn
Into a battlefield tonight”

10 word description: Tactical RPG, turn-based battles, level up, acquire items and extra warriors.

10 word review: Well presented, entertaining turn-based challenges. Plenty of variety. Recommended!

You will like this if you enjoy: Battle for Wesnoth (hardcore turn-based combat); Battleheart (small party RPG combat); Slay; turn-based strategy games; quick, challenging maps.

The Barbarian is only one of 10 playable classes

The good news: This is a really well designed, challenging, turn-based game featuring relatively small maps with a good variety of missions. The whole game appears well designed and thoughtfully put together. And it’s got hot-seat multiplayer. And it’s got 60+ Game Center achievements.

Each zone on the map has its own list of missions to complete

The bad news: It’s occasionally hard to distinguish between your characters and the enemy, particularly the barbarians who look very similar. Completed missions cannot be replayed in the same campaign.

One of the early missions lets you beat one enemy up with two of your men. It doesn't stay that easy for very long

Arcadelife verdict: This is a great turn-based game, very much with the mobile gamer in mind. Maps are small and quick to play. Class selection, levelling, items and tactics are all deep enough to pull in hardcore turn-based gamers but the game is intuitive and instantly playable after the short tutorial section.

Completing a mission often rewards you with an item or a new warrior. If you don't want a new warrior, you can opt to take a large chunk of XP to share between your existing warriors instead

Don’t let this game slip into the forgotten abyss of the app store! If you are still not sure, grab the free version!

Missions are varied. Here, you have to destroy the enemy flag and protect your own

There are lots of achievements to earn
