Clumsy Bob review (iPod/iPhone)

May 4, 2011

“Jump, pogo pogo pogo pogo pogo pogo pogo”

You can't call them "clumsy", you know. They're "coordinationally challenged"

10 word description: Horizontal cloud-hopping elephant. Accelerometer control. Simple distance game.

Do not pass GO, do not collect £200. (Sometimes I think I'm missing my target audience completely)

10 word review: Casual, fun game. Tilt controls work well. Pleasing visuals.

Collecting coins as you travel adds to your score

You will like this if you enjoy: Doodlejump, Pac’n Jump, Mega Jump, Angry Jumper, Drooling Zombie Jump, Belligerent Cabbage Jump, etc. (sideways instead of vertical).

Items such as the umbrella will help you travel a bit further with ease

The good news: Considering the simplicity of the basic concept, Clumsy Bob is surprisingly entertaining. It’s blatantly casual, targeting the Doodlejump audience but going for a cute cartoon style rather than the rather tired doodle graphics that we all know so well.

Significant distances are marked by cute little boards with numbers on them. By comparison, real life truly sucks.

The bad news: If you’re in the wrong mood it can feel repetitive, but then you could say that about all games of this type.

Clumsy Bob and his slightly insane looking friends celebrate his success in fine style.

Arcadelife verdict: For me, this game is somewhere between Air Penguin and Pac’n Jump, at least as far as enjoyment and addiction are concerned. I found myself liking it more than Air Penguin but losing out to Pac’n Jump due to Namco’s game having distinctly different levels and a great retro vibe. However, if you prefer jumping sideways to jumping vertically, Clumsy Bob would be the one to get.

Arcadelife rating: 76/100
