Bounty Hunter review (iOS/Universal)
May 5, 2011♫ “I’m a Bounty Hunter, I’ll hunt you down
Yes I will”
10 word description: Retro inspired top-down arcade style racer / shooter survival game.
10 word review: Very retro 80’s driving. Simple gameplay, fairly tough. Cool music.
You will like this if you enjoy: Retro iOS games; Spy Hunter (remember that one?)
The good news: The simple concept is instantly accessible. 8-Bit Weapon soundtrack does a lot to enhance the experience.
The bad news: Controls feel slightly cramped on iPod/iPhone and painfully awkward on iPad. Different options for left/right control would be nice. The car doesn’t crash as much as merge with other vehicles – crashes would be more fun.
Arcadelife verdict: How far back in time do you want to go? This is like a Spectrum driving game based on something you might have seen in an arcade in about 1981. Font, graphics, music … it’s all so retro it’s almost too much to handle in bursts of more than a few minutes. It’s genius, obviously, but the controls and weird crashing (not crashing) could do with a bit of help.
Apart from the controls – please at least sort out control position for iPad or add a relative touch option for left/right movement – this is a pretty good retro racer/shooter. The closest comparison I can think of is Spy Hunter or Bump ‘n’ Jump but neither of those are exactly the same as this.

Thanks for the review. I have been looking into options for tilt, joystick or touch position controls, I will work on a good implementation for them. thanks for the feedback!
just a quick update to say v1.6 is now out which has a less cramped and and improved control layout!
