Mower Ride review (iOS/Universal)

June 16, 2011

“Some clown in Sacramento was dragged into court
He shot his lawnmower
It disobeyed, it wouldn’t start”

10 word description: Endless lawnmower racing game; tilt control, power-ups, random racetracks; upgrades.

Collect gold coins to replenish ever-decreasing mower health, just like in real life

10 word review: Great endless racer, mower is fun, track obstacles are entertaining.

Typically, if a power-up is on the right, I'll be mowing on the left

You will like this if you enjoy: Endless racers/runners; Spy Hunter (because it feels very similar to that game when the opponents start to appear).

Crash and burn, evil enemy mower scum!

The good news: Graphics are good, tilt control instantly and unobtrusively calibrates itself – and works really well, random track layouts keep the game fresh, power-ups are fun and varied, ramming opponents into obstacles is very satisfying.

The magnet power-up will attract incredibly attractive women to your mower. Probably.

The bad news: Not a lot. Even the music is pretty good.

Yeah... keep trying

Arcadelife verdict: A very pleasant surprise, because it didn’t sound like it was going to be anywhere near as good as it actually is. The racing is very similar to playing ancient arcade game Spy Hunter, without the guns. The lawnmower theme makes a welcome change from the ever popular zombies and birds and overall the game is immediately fun and rather addictive.

Arcadelife rating: 77/100
