Hard Lines review (iPod/iPhone)

July 7, 2011

“Lately I’m a desperate believer
But walking in a straight line”

The menu screen displays an attract mode and the high score for the selected game type

10 word description: Snake/Tron lightcycles variant. Multiple modes, Openfeint leaderboards, many jokes…

The participating lines crack jokes, comment on the game, shout abuse and even pose trivia questions while you're playing

10 word review: Rather brilliant reinvention of old classics. Almost endlessly replayable. Recommended.

Of the six modes, Snake mode is the most similar to the original Snake game. (Please help to vote that comment as most pointless and obvious screen shot caption ever). Thanks

You will like this if you enjoy: Intense Snake style high-score games. The idea of playing a Tron Lightcycles game with loads of jokes, many very amusing.

Gauntlet mode immediately puts you up against a whole load of enemy lines. Anyone expecting warriors and elves will be disappointed

The good news: Everything it sets out to do, it achieves in quite spectacular form. You’ll never play a better Snake type game than this.

It's all glowy and with particle effects and stuff. On the iPad it plays very nicely but with fairly lo-res graphics

The bad news: If anything, this burned my battery out faster than The Dungeon Saga. Maybe that’s because I played it non-stop for 3 days. Don’t do that, kids, it’s not a good idea. It’s not universal – plays well on iPad but with non-Retina lo-res graphics. The screens in this review are from my iPod 4th gen (Retina).

Hard Lines - blurring the line between a genre classic and something new and wonderful

Arcadelife verdict: Best Game Ever. This week, anyway.
