Mathical Vol. 1 review (iPod/iPhone/iPad)

September 8, 2011

“As I’m screaming all my pain
You will be there counting”

10 word description: Five maths games for primary/elementary age mental calculation skills.

At least they're not angry

10 word review: Varied bunch of maths tests. Some are better than others.

You will like this if you enjoy: Dropping the word “edutainment” into conversations. Just don’t.

The good news: A decent attempt to integrate maths into a variety of different gaming scenarios. It never feels like being in school and doing maths. Graphics are ok, at least when compared to a lot of the games on the app store. Difficulty can be adjusted on most of the games.

This game is "Divider Slider". Move the monster to the correct number or it will get whacked by a falling log

The bad news: Performance isn’t great, particularly in the menus. The fractions game is more about luck than maths. The number positioning in the slime jumping game needs to be improved to avoid the cheap deaths that occur way too frequently.

This would easily be the best game of the bunch, if a bit more care had been taken coding it

Arcadelife verdict: It’s a pretty good collection of maths games, but needs a bit of a performance tweak and a few improvements (and fixes) in individual games.

This one is like Pong, reinvented by Pythagoras. (Look him up, he was clearly insane)

Arcadelife rating: 68/100
