Zombie Parkour Runner review (iPod/iPhone)

December 2, 2011

“Girl, come running,
Girl, come running home.”

10 word description: Running / platform challenge levels. Alternative routes, collectibles, achievements. Parkour. Zombies.

Wall running is introduced fairly early in the game, adding an additional dimension to the single-touch jump control

10 word review: Surprisingly fun & replayable runner variant. Single touch control = spot-on.

Kill or avoid zombies, collect coins, jump about in trendy footwear

You will like this if you enjoy: Endless runners (although this isn’t one). Platform games where timing is a major factor. Games with highly replayable levels.

Each challenge stage ends at a flag not dissimilar to the one in this picture

The good news: There’s more to do than just running and jumping. The “Parkour” skills (although a bit of a gaming cliché now) work well with the single-tap control and fit in well with the concept of mastering alternative routes and collecting the coins and unique items. Graphically it’s very nice. Gameplay feels polished and the levels all play very well. Good sense of progression, plenty of addictive qualities to keep you coming back.

The second and third zones include a large boss creature (left side of screen) that pursues you and encourages you not to stumble when performing hip and cool Parkour moves

The bad news: Someone is going to want an endless mode. There isn’t one at the moment, but it wouldn’t exactly be hard to include one, maybe as unlockable bonus games for beating each of the 3 zones.

Look at me wall running... I bet I could get a job doing that

Arcadelife verdict: Once again, here’s a pleasant surprise that defied my negative preconceptions. It’s a good game, fun for platform fans and endless runner fans alike, although it doesn’t fit cleanly into either genre. The game name is a bit clunky and the mention of Parkour just makes me think of unemployed kids jumping over dustbins and pretending it’s some kind of urban art form. Ignore my ignorance of youth culture and have a go at this game – it’s well worth it.

One of several Game Over screens, although they're not actually Game Over screens as you can continually retry from checkpoints

Arcadelife rating: 85/100
