Road Warrior review (iPod/iPhone)
December 7, 2011♫ “Thundering down the badlands road
He drives at maniacal speed”
10 word description: 2D side-view car racing/shooting game. Upgrades & unlockable vehicles.
10 word review: Fun for a while. Upgrades a time-sink, IAPs expensive option.
You will like this if you enjoy: Simplistic, action/racing games.
The good news: Easy to get into. Controls work well. Plenty of vehicles and upgrades to unlock.
The bad news: Racing doesn’t feel like it needs any real skill, just event grinding to buy upgrades. A considerable amount of grinding (repeating similar races over and over) is needed to afford the upgrades. The car is controlled more like a motorcycle, with flip/lean controls – rather strange.
Arcadelife verdict: It’s moderately entertaining in short bursts, but the upgrade earning requires a fair amount of dedication and perseverance. Despite the different backgrounds, the tracks all feel very similar; ramps and loops don’t add any challenge as the car just drives over or around them with hardly any control adjustment required from the player. Being destroyed by other cars results in an instant respawn with hardly any noticeable impact on your race performance. The high cost of upgrades, particularly weapons, and new vehicles, plus the IAPs, doesn’t improve the overall experience.
