Christmas Catch’em review (iOS / Universal)

December 15, 2011

“I wish it could be Christmas every day”

I love the smell of melting snowman in the morning

10 word description: Catch falling Christmas shapes in the correct slots. 5 characters.

10 word review: Seasonal bandwagon jumper is pretty good. Nice felt cut-out shapes.

It's always useful knowing how to play a game

You will like this if you enjoy: Catching Christmas shapes in the right slots while listening to a jolly Christmas tune (not the one I took the lyric from for the review header).

Although there's no formal medical term for Christmas phobia, I'm sure I have it. And this sort of thing really doesn't help

The good news: Felt cut-out graphics are cute and have a pleasant Christmas appeal. Gameplay is surprisingly challenging once you pick the hardest difficulty level. ‘Easy’ is easy enough for a sleeping cat to play, well, almost.

Rearrange these letters to spell something you might get for doing fairly well in a stage of a videogame

The bad news: There’s only one mode, but then it’s a seasonally topical Christmas-themed game so I wouldn’t expect a ton of content that most people on the planet would never see anyway. Join the club; this isn’t exactly the world’s most popular website.

This is what you want to avoid - the top of the screen

Arcadelife verdict: Get over the whole “Oh no, another Christmas game” hurdle and this is actually not a bad test of coordination and falling-block control. The cut-out felt graphics are rather nice and the game definitely doesn’t feel like a throwaway Christmas cash-in. If you’re thinking “Well, two weeks from now, who will be playing this?” you could realistically ask exactly the same thing about the majority of games on the app store.

Your pathetic attempt is personally ridiculed by an educationally subnormal alcoholic in a santa outfit

Arcadelife rating: 70/100
