Doodle Ski XL review (iPad)

January 17, 2012

“Run ’em down, skiing in the snow”

10 word description: Endless skiing; avoid obstacles, throw snowballs at enemies. Game Center.

There is a tilt control option, but this is what the touch buttons look like. Of course, they could be invisible with the sides used as control zones..... one day, eh?

10 word review: Vertically oriented ‘runner’; quite silly, which adds to the fun.

You will like this if you enjoy: ‘Endless’ style games, only in this one you’re travelling down the screen and there’s no jumping.

The good news: Choice of tilt or touch controls is a wise consideration on iPad. Graphics are fairly typical of the doodle art style (if you like that sort of thing). Music is jolly, suits the pace of the game very well. Different environmental hazards, such as the rock fall and fog, add some nice variety to the standard tree-dodging gameplay.

The bad news: The doodle style may be well past its popularity peak; having the word ‘Doodle’ in the game title could deter more players than it attracts.

Arcadelife verdict: For what it is – a simple endless skiing / dodging game – it all hangs together fairly well, isn’t frustrating and has a lot of that ‘one more go’ feeling going on.
