Darkside (iOS) – Asteroids for the Massive 3D Retina generation … coming soon

May 3, 2012

How much do I love Asteroids? Too much. And now this is coming to iOS…

It’s called Darkside and it’s already available on PC/Mac. You can buy the game, or download a free demo from the download page on the Clockwork Pixels website.

Clockwork Pixels are the people behind Kitten Sanctuary, the popular iOS match-3 / kitten nurturing hybrid, which received a very positive review on Arcadelife (88/100).

I’ve been playing the PC demo of Darkside but I’m trying to restrain myself until I can experience it on my iPad. Expect to see a review of the iOS version of the game on Arcadelife very near the release date. Essentially, you’re flying a small spacecraft around a massive asteroid, blowing stuff up and generally crying with joy at the sheer beauty of the pyrotechnic destruction. There’s a lot more to it than that, of course, but the core game is what counts and this one feels close to perfect. As long as the iOS dual-stick controls are good, and there’s no reason to doubt that at this point, you’re looking at a ton of fun, particularly if you’re already a fan of Asteroids type games.

Some info lifted from the Clockwork Pixels website:

Featuring improved graphics from the desktop versions (PC/Mac) Darkside is 100% Retina display ready, on both the iPad & iPhone/iPod Touch. Darkside features configurable dual stick controls and Game Center support for high scores & achievements!

Darkside Features :

  • 100’s of fast paced levels packed with aliens.
  • Arcade, Missions & Survival game modes.
  • Fly around massive asteroids in glorious 3D.
  • Ten awesome power ups of mass destruction.
  • Retina display enabled for iPad & iPhone.
  • Game Center support & achievements.
  • Configurable dual stick controls.
If you have a PC or Mac, I recommend trying the demo. I can’t wait to get my hands on the iOS version!
