Run In Crowd review (iOS / Universal)

May 4, 2012

“When I’m in the crowd, I don’t see anything”

10 word description: Race alongside other players in a new world each day. (Their description, not mine, but I like it).

10 word review: Simple, stylish endless runner. Simultaneous multiplayer gimmick works really well.

I am not a number!

You will like this if you enjoy: Endless runners where you can see the (ghosts of) other players running with you.

The good news: Nice graphical style, assuming you aren’t tired of the monochrome style yet. Simple tap to jump/double-jump control system works well. The smoke-and-mirrors method of imitating real simultaneous multiplayer is very convincing; yes, they are real players, no they’re not running at exactly the same time that you are.

The bad news: Only that I’d like to see more variety in the obstacles; the game as it is has no real faults.

Arcadelife verdict: An interesting multiplayer endless runner. You’ll never be waiting for other players and the run is always more fun as you see other runners plummet into chasms or collide with obstacles.

No surprise there

The presentation and score browsing are slick, the game instantly fun and rather addictive, despite the lack of variety in obstacles. IAPs are just for different character skins, so it’s entirely up to you whether you buy or not; I can’t really criticise this type of IAP as it doesn’t give players any advantage other than to run around as a different character to prove they had 69p to spare.
