The Naked Gun: I.C.U.P. review (iOS / Universal)

June 15, 2012

“Keep your mouth shut or we’ll break your nose
We’re the New York State Police”

10 word description: Point-&-Click adventure based on The Naked Gun. Game Center.

10 word review: Funny, great voice acting, lots of crimes to solve. Entertaining!

You will like this if you enjoy: Bizarre “Police Squad” style criminal investigations. Sam and Max. Hector: Badge of Carnage. Point and Click adventure games.

The good news: Genuinely very funny and consistently well written. Voice acting is high quality. Graphics are pretty good. Plenty of crimes to solve, items to find, upgrades to unlock, etc.

The bad news: A few crashes occasionally.

Arcadelife verdict: It’s great to play an intentionally funny game that actually succeeds at being funny without becoming tedious or annoying. Fans of The Naked Gun / Police Squad will possibly get a few more chuckles from some of the references, but the humour is mostly of the spoof / ridiculous variety that pretty much anyone should find amusing. The cases that Frank junior (the player’s character) has to solve are many and varied, often quite surreal.

The voice acting is all very good and there are plenty of locations, cases to solve, characters to talk to and items to find and interact with. Overall, this is a great example of the point and click genre on iOS and a highly entertaining game.
