Madcoaster review (iOS / Universal)July 20, 2012
♫ “Ooh, down a white knuckle ride”
10 word description: Endless roller-coaster runner. Multiple themes and upgrades. Game Center.
10 word review: Addictive, quite easy and very pretty. IAPs can be ignored.
You will like this if you enjoy: Endless runners.
The good news: Simple one-touch control. Very attractive graphics. Easy to unlock all themes (by reaching 10,000 metres). Satisfying and addictive gameplay.
The bad news: Possibly “too easy” for some players, although I don’t have a problem with it. After 15,000 metres, particularly in the cloudy windmill theme, the short stretches of track tend to lead to a series of rather quick crashes. The distractions of the great foreground and background visuals often contribute to crashes, which is probably the intention!
Arcadelife verdict: I know this one has been out for ages but I went back to it recently and found myself quite hooked, at least for a couple of days! The IAPs are completely unnecessary, unless you just want to unlock a bunch of very expensive cosmetic upgrades. I’ve unlocked all the themes and an extra heart (life) just by playing the game fairly normally, also earned enough coins to unlock a couple of different riders or one of the fancier looking coasters.
Overall, this is a very fun member of the endless runner genre with a lot of different themes (backgrounds and creatures) plus the occasional surprise. Completing each of the progressive sets of objectives raises your level and your score multiplier.
