10 word description: Action/strategy mouse vs cats game, originally on PC (1991).

10 word review: A couple of glitches, tolerable controls, still challenging and fun.

You will like this if you enjoy: Retro maze style games, although this isn’t a maze game. It’s a bit like Pac-Man but with walls that you can push, cats instead of ghosts, no power-pills and, ok, it’s nothing like Pac-Man.

The good news: This was always, for me, a hidden gem in Microsoft’s Entertainment Pack and the addictive cat-trapping gameplay has survived rather well.

The bad news: The controls could do with either a bit of a rethink or, preferably, full user customisation. There are a few bugs/glitches, including the button text that gets fouled up when you change the control type and cats freezing and becoming invulnerable when you quit a game and start a new game.

Arcadelife verdict: Considering how ancient this game looks – oh come on, yes it does! – the gameplay is remarkably deep, tough and addictive. The controls come close to letting it down but (on iPad anyway) the option that puts the d-pad on the lower right is satisfactory. What the game really needs is a proper customisable d-pad and also a relative touch option instead of the weird full screen control method where you have to tap around the mouse to move it and the silly option to have the d-pad right on top of the mouse. Relative touch – please add this, it would make the game so much better!
